About
Maria works in her studio with far reaching views of the Northumberland coastline. She works with the sight and sound of seabirds overhead and the day is punctuated with the ebb and flow of the tide. Whether sculpting a seabird in clay or painting, in oils or watercolour, the ever changing light on the sea and sky, Maria’s most recent work is a celebration of coastal and estuary life.
Alongside her studio practice, Maria paints outdoors in all weathers to capture feeling and a moment in time in the landscape. She is one of the co-founders of Plein Air North East, a collective of professional artists who paint together in the field and exhibit together throughout the region.
Maria has exhibited her work in galleries and exhibitions locally and nationally. She has been shortlisted twice for the New Light art prize for both painting and ceramic sculpture. She has also exhibited and sold paintings with the Royal Society of British Artists at the Mall Galleries in London.
